Bombings hit home for Boston native Driscoll

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – For James Driscoll the images of Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon were particularly disturbing.

Driscoll was born in Boston, grew up attending the event on Patriot’s Day and had many friends at Monday’s event, although no one he knew was injured in the explosion.

“Last year I was there,” he said on Tuesday at the RBC Heritage. “I watched the entire thing from a bar right there at the finish line (in 2012).”

Driscoll, who was in South Carolina on Monday preparing for this week’s event, said he was stunned by the images being shown from the attack and grateful no one he knew was injured.

“A friend was in between the two explosions,” he said. “It was crazy.”
