AUGUSTA, Ga. – Putting has cost Lee Westwood major championship victories in the past. Friday at Augusta National, it cost him a chance to lead the Masters heading into the weekend.

Westwood, the first-round leader, began his second round with 10 consecutive pars, made bogey on No. 11, then birdie on Nos. 12 and 15. He came to the final hole with a one-shot lead but three-putted for double-bogey 6 and shot 72. Westwood is 4 under par and is a shot behind Jason Dufner and Fred Couples.

“The double at the last was a disappointing way to finish,” Westwood said. “These things happen and they’ll happen to everybody.

“I’m in a good position. Right in there for the weekend.”
