Could signatures bring Choi’s signature swing to Scottsdale?

The People’s Major, aka the Waste Management Phoenix Open, is without question the rowdiest event on the PGA Tour calendar.

Now, what if the tournament invited golf’s rowdiest follow-through?

A PGA professional from Tucson, Ariz., created a petition asking for Phoenix Open officials to give Hosung Choi a sponsor exemption. For those who haven’t heard of Choi, he’s the 202nd-ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking and recently won the Casio World Open on the Japan Tour. He also is arguably golf’s most interesting man, post swing.

The petition’s creator, Derek Deminsky of Forty Niner Country Club, wrote this on the petition’s page:

“Once in a generation golfer, Hosung Choi, has BURST out onto the scene and into our hearts this past 2018. Being arguably the most entertaining golfer to watch, I and many others strongly feel he deserves a sponsors exemption into the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The “greatest show on grass” NEEDS to have the greatest showman in the game. We are politely asking that you would extend one of your sponsors exemptions to Hosung Choi, so that we can see his greatness up close.”

As of Wednesday evening, more than 1,000 people had signed the petition. Clearly, the people are starting to speak. They want their hero in the field.
