With the Masters just three weeks away, Luke Donald’s final test run before Augusta didn’t go according to plan.

Far from it, in fact. He missed his first-ever cut in a European Tour event.

The world No. 3 shot rounds of 74-73 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and fell three shots adrift of the cut line at the Maybank Malaysian Open.  It was Donald’s first missed cut in 119 career European Tour starts.

“I guess all good runs come to an end eventually,” he tweeted afterward. “Hugely disappointed to miss my first ever cut in a European Tour event.”

Donald was coming off his best finish of the season, a T-4 at last week’s Tampa Bay Championship. Prior to that, though, he hadn’t cracked the top 15 in three PGA Tour starts.

In Malaysia, Donald told reporters, “The usual scoring clubs for me – from 100 yards and in – weren’t good enough. It’s been a little bit that way the last few tournaments, but it’s something that never really worries me because I know they are my strengths.”
