PGA of America chief executive officer Joe Steranka will leave the position at the end of the year, according to the Palm Beach Post.
His decision to exit comes as he is working in his 25th year with the organization, seventh in his current role.
‘I started at the PGA when I attended the 1988 Masters,’ Steranka said. ‘This was my 25th one, so I think the timing is appropriate.’
Steranka came to the PGA of America as communications director after working in varying capacities for two NBA franchises – the then Washington Bullets and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 53-year-old will remain on the job through the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in August and the Ryder Cup matches at Medinah near Chicago in September.
‘I have no plans after I finish at PGA,’ said Steranka. ‘I hope to play more golf than I do now with a goal of getting my index back down into single digits.’
