KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – If you’re wondering what Tiger Woods’ 3-under-par 69 to open the PGA Championship Thursday may mean come Sunday, here’s his history in his 14 major championship victories:

Best start: A 65 in the 2000 U.S. Open.

Woods has led, or shared the lead, four times after the first round in his 14 major championship titles. His first-round scoring average in his victories is 68.85.

Worst start: A 74 at the 2005 Masters.

Woods was in 33rd place after the first round of the ’05 Masters but rallied with a 66 in the second round to move into third place.

The big picture: In his 14 major championship titles, Woods has been among the top 10 after the first round 10 times. He has opened with an under par score 11 times. Notably, he opened with 1-over-par scores in his last two major championship victories. He was 23rd after the first round of the ’07 PGA and 19th after the first round of the ’08 U.S. Open.
