Rory McIlroy’s victory at the PGA Championship helped set up a juicy group at next week’s playoff opener.

Tiger Woods and McIlroy, currently Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in the FedEx Cup race, are assured of playing in the same group during next week’s Barclays event at Bethpage Black. In the playoffs, players are grouped together in the first two rounds of each tournament by their standing in the FedEx Cup points race.

Woods and McIlroy have not played in the same group this season on the PGA Tour, though they were paired together in the Dubai Desert Classic in January.

Woods has won the FedEx Cup twice, in 2007 and ’09. McIlroy, meanwhile, failed to advance to the Tour Championship in his only other attempt, in 2010.
