Wyndham Clark’s third victory of the season Sunday at the BMW Championship came with a bonus: an automatic spot on the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
Clark jumped four spots to third in the U.S. points race, which ended on Sunday evening upon conclusion of the second FedExCup Playoffs event in St. Louis. He joined Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa in locking up their spots on captain Brandt Snedeker’s 12-man squad.
“Honestly, I didn’t even think about it coming off such a terrible year, didn’t even think about Player of the Year,” Clark said. “I was more just wanting to get back into contention, wanting to make it to East Lake. And then I win, and win a major and then it’s like, OK, now I want to make the Presidents Cup team. So, yeah, I mean, honestly, this has all come pretty quick, and I honestly hadn’t really thought about it. So hopefully that maybe is in the cards, but if not I’m just really pleased with how the year’s gone.”
The Sept. 24-27 matches at Medinah will mark Clark’s second Presidents Cup appearance. He went 1-2-1 in his debut in 2024 in Montreal.
Ben Griffin fell three spots, from fifth to eighth, though he can still earn one of six captain’s picks, which will be announced next Sunday after the end of the Tour Championship.
Chris Gotterup finished seventh in points, followed by Griffin, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Justin Thomas, Jacob Bridgeman, Patrick Cantlay, Akshay Bhatia and Maverick McNealy.
Geoff Ogilvy’s International team will be filled with six automatic picks via the Official World Golf Ranking after the Tour Championship and six subsequent captain’s picks. As of now, Si Woo Kim, Ryan Fox, Hideki Matsuyama, Min Woo Lee, Tom Kim and Adam Scott would be the six auto selections.
