Severe weather continues to wreak havoc on the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Play was suspended Friday afternoon at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee, the third delay of at least two and a half hours in four days. Friday’s horn blew at 3:29 p.m. ET as a thunderstorm rolled in, bringing heavy rain and lightning, and play did not resume.
Though no injuries were reported, a large tree near the 17th tree was struck by lightning.

Action is scheduled to restart at 7 a.m. ET Saturday with the eighth and final match in the Round of 16 through just eight holes and no matches with more than 10 holes completed.
This year marked a change in the traditional Monday start for this championship. The first round of stroke play instead began Tuesday with Friday and Saturday shifting from one-round match days to two-round match days. Originally, the quarterfinals and semifinals were to be contested Saturday, followed by Sunday’s 36-hole final.
Now, it appears the semifinals will almost certainly bleed into Sunday morning. According to the USGA, play would extend into Monday rather than the final becoming just 18 holes.
Among the notables still in this championship are top-ranked junior Asterisk Talley, reigning U.S. Girls’ Junior champion Clairey Line and 24-year-old Stanford alum Rachel Heck.
