‘Why not?’ Michael Block did something crazy before U.S. Senior Open debut

For years, Michael Block marked his golf ball with a reminder to hit each shot with confidence:

Why not?

“Why not be me?” Block explained. “Why not hit a good shot?”

Why not … get a crazy haircut?

When Block saw that Monti the Barber, a regular at USGA championships, was at Scioto Country Club ahead of this week’s U.S. Senior Open, he immediately booked a time ahead of Wednesday’s press conference. For Block, who is making not only his senior major debut but is hyped for Wednesday night’s World Cup match between the U.S. and Bosnia and Herzegovina, he wanted to make a statement with the fresh cut.

“I was like, ‘Dude, I’ve got to get U.S.A. shaved in my head somehow,’” Block said. “We’ve got the World Cup at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday is July 4; I’m playing the U.S. Open. This is all meant to be.

“Now, I’ve got a U.S.A. shaved on [the back of] my head. Should be there for about a week.”

Why not?
