What it means: Barnes, 35, is still seeking his first PGA Tour win. The closest he has come was a tie for second behind Lucas Glover in the 2009 U.S. Open. This is Barnes' second outright 54-hole lead.
Round(s) of the day: Nick Taylor and Aaron Baddeley shot 6-under 66. Taylor's round was a bogey-free, six-birdie effort. Baddeley made eight birdies and two bogeys.
Best of the rest: Four players shot 5-under 67, including leader Barnes. Barnes would have a bigger lead had he not finished each nine with a bogey. He also failed to take advantage of the par-5s, playing them in a collective even par. Five of his seven birdies came on par-4 holes.
Biggest disappointment: Peter Malnati and Sung Kang were both in the top five after 36 holes, but both shot 76 on Saturday to fall out of contention
Shot of the day: Mark Wilson finished in style, chipping in for par on the 18th hole.
Quote of the day: "I mean this is why you play the game, right? Coming in Sundays and have a chance to win." - Ricky Barnes
