Schniederjans headlines Farmers sponsor invites

Former top-ranked amateur Ollie Schniederjans is one of six players who have received sponsor invitations to next month's Farmers Insurance Open.

Schniederjans had a decorated career at Georgia Tech and finished T-12 as an amateur earlier this year at the Open Championship. He turned pro after that event, and while he didn't earn enough FedEx Cup points to qualify for the Tour Finals last season, Schniederjans earned his Tour card via Q-School earlier this month.

Schniederjans has made the cut in each of his first three PGA Tour starts this season, with his best result a T-38 finish at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. His invitation continues the event's trend of investing in some of the game's rising stars, having doled out sponsor invites to Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Michael Kim in recent years.

India's Anirban Lahiri also received an invite after a year in which he won twice on the European Tour, earned his PGA Tour card via Tour Finals and qualified for the Presidents Cup. Former PGA Tour winners Aaron Baddeley, Robert Garrigus and Jhonattan Vegas were also added to the field.

The sixth invitation went to Xander Schauffele, who recently earned his Tour card after an All-American career at nearby San Diego State.

The Farmers Insurance Open will be held Jan. 28-31 on the North and South courses at Torrey Pines.
