Jon Rahm had an opening round to forget at the BMW PGA Championship on Thursday.
The two-time major winner posted a 6-over 78 at Wentworth Club to tie his highest round on the DP World Tour.
Rahm recorded just one birdie— at the par-5 12th hole — against five bogeys and a double.
His second best chance at a circle came on the par-5 18th, but Rahm settled for his third straight par. He entered the clubhouse at T-136, just one shot ahead of Marcel Siem in dead last and 12 back of co-leaders Aaron Rai and Joakim Lagergren.
Daniel Brown was trending to hold that spot at 10 over through 15 holes but withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship.
As for Rahm, it marks his second 78 of the year — he notably went without a birdie in his opening round at the Masters, tying the highest of his major championship career. He shot a 78 at the U.S Open at Shinnecock Hills in 2018.
His previous 78 in a regular DP World Tour event came in the opening round of the 2021 Andalucia Masters.
