Spieth going back to major-winning irons

NORTON, Mass. – Jordan Spieth confirmed he is going back to the irons that won him the Masters and the U.S. Open.

A week after switching to a set of prototype Titleist 716 AP2 irons and missing the cut at The Barclays, he’s back to the 714s for this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.

“I figured it would be no problem,” Spieth said of going to the new irons last week. “And then I just felt that they were sliding through the turf a little different, and the look was a bit of an adjustment. They looked slightly different. I still think they're going to be a better iron. I think they are improved.”

Spieth said he will eventually work his way back into the new irons, but he needs more time to adjust.

“Didn't see many issues on the driving range (last week), but once I got to some uneven lies and whatnot, I could tell some difference,” Spieth said. “My old irons, I switched back to this week, they're not beat up enough to effect it negatively. I figured I'll go with what I have this year, until after The Presidents Cup, and then I'll find the right fit.”
