Weekly Fix: Match up your arm swing and body turn

Welcome back to Weekly Fix! I’m Tim Cooke and each week here on GolfChannel.com we’ll be taking a closer look at your golf swings in hopes of helping you play your best this golf season.

We’re going to be taking a look at John’s golf swing this week, and as you’ll see from his videos, John is a talented young player.

At just 14 years of age, John already has his handicap down to 5.2, and I think this analysis will help him lower that figure even more.

So how are we going to do that? By creating a little more stability in John’s swing, which will help him better sync up his arm swing and his body movement.

As a quick summary, some of the tips I would suggest that everyone take away from this week’s analysis would include the following:

• In your golf swing, one of the primary goals should always be to finish in a stable position and in great balance.

• If you turn too much with your lower body early in your takeaway, you’ll complete your turn too early in your swing and run the risk of lifting with your arms as you complete the backswing.

• Finishing the backswing with a turn of the body, instead of a lifting of the arms, makes it easier to match up the timing and peak speed sequence of the arm swing and body rotation throughout the downswing to impact.

Well, that’s it for this week’s edition of Weekly Fix. Keep sending us those videos at WeeklyFix@GolfChannel.com, and we’ll be back with a brand new edition next week right here at GolfChannel.com.
