Fred Couples made it official Thursday that he would be using one of his two allotted wildcard picks as U.S. Presidents Cup captain on Tiger Woods. Woods is currently 28th in the points standings and cannot make the team as an automatic qualifier (top 10) since he did not make the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Jason Sobel writes in his latest column that the inclusion of Woods showcases the biennial event as more of a ‘hit-and-giggle’ event than a serious Ryder Cup-like competition.
