Fan makes 'right' call, Rose misses birdie chance

Justin Rose

ORLANDO, Fla. – Call it a bad read. Or maybe it was just bad timing. Either way, as Justin Rose lined up his 15-foot birdie putt at the par-4 13th hole on Friday afternoon at Bay Hill, a member of the gallery decided to help with the read.

“Someone’s like, ‘It goes right. It goes right. It goes right,’” said Rose, who carded a 70 on Day 2 and is tied for the lead with Bill Haas. “I hit a great putt that’s in the middle with 4 feet to go and it goes left of the hole.”

Rose answered with a birdie at the 16th hole to maintain a share of the lead but it took him some time to dismiss the unsolicited advice.

“It’s just one of those annoying moments when you’re having to battle like someone planted a seed,” said Rose, who took a moment to glare at the fan after missing the birdie attempt. “I’ve just got my back up a tiny bit.”
