After a sensational freshman campaign at the University of Texas, Brandon Stone announced Wednesday that he is turning pro. The 20-year-old South African, who won 18 titles in his amateur career, has signed with IMG.

Last week Stone was honored as the Phil Mickelson Award winner, given annually to the top freshman in college golf. He also finished first in Golfstat’s individual rankings for the 2012-13 season.

Stone began his college career with a win at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, then captured two more titles – the Bayou City Collegiate Championship and Big 12 title – en route to being named a first-team All-American. He finished with seven top-5 finishes, including a runner-up at last week’s NCAA Championship.

IMG announced that Stone will make his pro debut at the European Tour’s BMW International Open in Germany on June 20-23. He also signed multi-year deals with Ping and Titleist.
