PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – After Kyle Stanley lost a big lead at the Farmers Insurance Open, he credited social media back-patting for lifting his spirits.
Perhaps public optimism even helped him to his first-ever PGA Tour title, as he claimed the Waste Management Phoenix Open one week later.
Just don’t expect Spencer Levin, the player who coughed up a big lead in Phoenix and led to Stanley’s win, to be uplifted in the same way.
That’s because Levin isn’t on Twitter, has never viewed his Facebook page and eschews nearly not only all social media, but all other forms of technology, as well.
“I've got an email, but I haven't checked it in about eight years,” Levin said on Wednesday prior to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. “I think I dropped my cell phone in the water or whatever somewhere [last winter], and then I just haven't bothered to get a new one. I have no desire to.”
Of course, that doesn’t mean nobody can ever get in touch with him.
“My girlfriend has got all my buddies' numbers,” he said. “I can talk to my friends through her phone. That's how I do it.”
