Jackson Koivun’s rookie year on the PGA Tour just got even better, after the 21-year-old was selected as the final captain’s pick for the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
The two-time national champion at Auburn was chosen by U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker as the final pick for the squad on Tuesday during a live selection show on Golf Channel.
Koivun burst onto the Tour scene in June and won the 3M Open in just his third career start.
The rookie even gained a berth to the first round of the playoffs and finished T-24 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship just over two weeks ago.
Many in the golf world believed Koivun made a case to make the Presidents Cup team after he held off world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to win in Minnesota. He has been called a “generational talent” and Snedeker clearly agreed after giving him the nod for the U.S. squad.
The U.S. and International teams will go head-to-head in the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Chicago from Sept. 24-27.
