Among the dozens and dozens of items symbolizing the international flare at the heart of the Solheim Cup, the pin on the right side of Nelly Korda’s hat with a red, white and blue “25" stood out on during Day 1’s foursome matches at Bernardus Golf.
Korda and several other American teammates were seen spotting the commemorative pin to honor the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that happened 25 years ago on Friday.
“Best way we remember to today is to carry ourselves the way we have — lots of pride, with our heads up,” said U.S. captain Angela Stanford. “Let’s represent the United States and let’s remember those whose lives were lost.”
The circular pin has the inscription “Never Forget — September 11, 2001 - September 11, 2026.”
Korda and her foursome partner Allisen Corpuz made history Friday morning, dispatching Lottie Woad and Charley Hull to secure the U.S. side with its first point of the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.
The American duo became the first partnership in event history to push its record to 5-0 – and they did so in dominating fashion, routing Europe’s top-ranked pair, 4 and 3.
It was part of a 2-2 tie in the opening foursomes session, just the third time in 20 editions that the first session was split.
Three pieces of equipment recovered from the rubble of Ground Zero are on permanent display in the USGA Golf Museum and Library.
