Jeff Overton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct in Indiana. He made the plea on Dec. 21 in Monroe County Circuit Court. Charges of resisting law enforcement and public intoxication were dismissed. Judge Teresa D. Harper ordered Overton to complete 30 hours of community service and pay $165 in administrative costs.
Overton was arrested Dec. 10 in his hometown of Bloomington, Ind., after an incident resulting from the golfer shouting at bystanders outside his limousine at approximately 3 a.m., in front of a sports bar near Indiana University.
Officers claimed Overton was not cooperative and arrested him. Overton posted $1,500 in bond for his release.
The next afternoon, Overton was at center court of the University's Assembly Hall during halftime of the Indiana-Kentucky basketball game to present a $50,000 check in support of the Play Golf America University program.
The lawyer for the PGA Tour player wanted to take the case to trial, according to Golfweek, but Overton declined.
“It's hard to be too loud before an Indiana-Kentucky game,” said Overton's lawyer, Sam Shapiro. “I would have liked to take this case to trial, but Jeff believed it was better for him to get this behind him.”
