Perez's putting confidence not shaken by 3-putts

LOS ANGELES – Pat Perez isn’t blaming his new belly putter.
Despite back-to-back three-putts from less than 8 feet early in Saturday’s round, Perez won’t be abandoning it, either. That’s because he rebounded nicely to work himself back in the hunt, just a shot off the lead.
“I don’t even know where the hell those came from,” Perez said of the short misses. “That’s just a fluke. I’ve putted great for six weeks. I knew I would be fine.”
Perez, 35, is looking for his second PGA Tour title. He won the Bob Hope Classic three years ago. He bolstered his putting going to a belly putter late last year. Fellow Tour pro and friend, Tommy Armour III, practically badgered him into trying it.
The tool didn't look so good when Perez missed a 7-footer for birdie at the third, then missed the 3-foot comebacker. At the fourth, he missed a 5-footer and a 3-footer to make double bogey. He didn't make another bogey the rest of the way, coming back with three birdies.
