BROOKLINE, Mass. – No hard feelings here.

After losing in the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur, Brady Watt will turn around and caddie for good friend Oliver Goss as Goss tries to become the second Australian in the past 11 years (Nick Flanagan) to hoist the Havemeyer Trophy.

“If I can’t win,” Watt said, “then I might as well see him do it. We’re good mates. Someone had to lose today.”

Watt dropped his semifinal match against Goss, 2 up, after sailing his approach on the final hole over the green and failing to get up and down.

Goss’ caddie this week, Taylor MacDonald, had already booked a flight to leave early Sunday – what, no faith? – and Goss preferred Watt over his assistant coach at Tennessee, Casey VanDamme.

“I’m going to enjoy it,” Goss said. “He’s definitely a really intense, focused guy.”
