Jordan Spieth, the newest PGA Tour member following his breakthrough victory at the John Deere Classic, will skip next week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in order to be prepared for the year’s final major and the FedEx Cup playoffs.

“It was a difficult decision but he hasn’t had two straight weeks off all year and it’s been such a whirlwind and sometimes you have to make tough decisions,” Spieth’s manager with Forefront Sports Group Jay Danzi told GolfChannel.com.

Spieth, who turned 20 on Saturday, earned his Tour membership and a spot in the Open Championship with his playoff victory at the Deere. But the Open was his 19th start this season on either the PGA or Web.com tours and his schedule the next few weeks will include the PGA Championship and at least the first three playoff events (he’s currently 12th on the points list), which necessitated his decision to skip the World Golf Championship.

According to Danzi, Spieth has been resting at home in Dallas since returning from the Open, where he tied for 44th.
