With baby on the way, Jon Rahm withdraws from Spanish Open

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from this week’s Spanish Open as he and wife Kelley await the birth of the couple’s fourth child.

Rahm is a three-time winner of his national open but will no longer tee it up in Madrid. The Spanish Open still boasts a strong field, headlined by Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Tyrrell Hatton and Ludvig Aberg, as the DP World Tour season enters its final stages.

Rahm was looking to bounce back from a last-place showing two weeks ago at the BMW PGA, the worst finish of his career. The world No. 15’s short-term playing future remains uncertain as he has not yet committed to LIV 2.0.

“There’s a long legal process they have to go through before a lot of things fall into place,” Rahm said.

Earlier this year Rahm agreed to a conditional release with the DP World Tour to continue playing LIV events without any further sanctions, but that deal extended to only the 2026 season. Rahm is believed to be obligated to play twice more – most likely next month in Abu Dhabi and Dubai – to fulfill the requirements of that arrangement.
