Defending Champ Crane Disqualified

MILWAUKEE -- Defending champion Ben Crane was disqualified from the U.S. Bank Championship on Friday for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Crane signed for a 3 on the par-5 sixth hole when he made a 5 on the Brown Deer Park Golf Course.

Crane, who had to finish 36 holes on Friday after inclement weather forced him off the course the day before, had just shot a 2-over 72 to end his second round and was standing at 1 under for the tournament.

The second round will not be finished until Saturday, but the current projected cut line is 2 under, meaning Crane would not have made it into the third round if his scorecard had been accurate.

Crane became only the second ever wire-to-wire winner in Milwaukee last year after winning by four strokes and posting a 20-under 260, tying the best 72-hole score in the tournament’s history.
