Duval Pulls Out of British Open

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- Former British Open champion David Duval pulled out of next month’s championship at Carnoustie, citing personal reasons.

The Royal & Ancient Club, which runs the July 19-22 tournament, said Friday that Duval was withdrawing ‘as a result of personal family matters.’

The American has not had a top-10 finish in the past five years. He hasn’t won a tournament since capturing the 2001 British Open at Royal Lytham.

Duval has played sparingly on the PGA TOUR this year because his wife, Susie, is having a difficult pregnancy with their second child. She will be on bed rest until the baby is due in August.
