HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The top-ranked team in the country might have more to worry about than a red-hot Stanford.
Alabama senior Trey Mullinax aggravated a lingering back injury Saturday during thesecond round of the NCAA Championship.
After signing for a 2-over 72, Mullinax walked gingerly to the training room at Prairie Dunes. He said his lower-back injury has been “torn up” for the past two months, but it flared up after he hit a shot on the 13th hole.
Mullinax received treatment from assistant coach Mike McGraw during the last few holes of hisround. Coming home, Mullinax said he tried to limit the torque on his body by hitting some “baby shots.”
“I’ll be all right for tomorrow,” said Mullinax, but his status is a concern for the No. 1-ranked team. Through two rounds the Tide is at 8-under 552, four shots off Stanford’s lead.
