HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Alabama’s Robby Shelton on Wednesday was named the Phil Mickelson Award winner as the top freshman in the country.

Shelton, 18, won twice in the 2013-14 season and posted eight other top-10 finishes, including a T-3 at this week’s NCAA Championship.

It is the second time in the past three years that Alabama boasted the top freshman in the country. In 2012, Justin Thomas was named the Phil Mickelson Award winner.

Other recent recipients of the award include Rickie Fowler (2008) and Morgan Hoffmann (2009).
