Patrick Rodgers’ remarkable season was recognized Sunday when the Stanford junior was named the recipient of the Ben Hogan Award, an honor given annually to the top player in college and amateur golf during a 12-month period.

No player in college golf has been as impressive this season as the 21-year-old Rodgers, who has won a Division I-best six times, including this week’s NCAA regional. In his last six starts, he has gone 1-1-1-2-1-1 to tie Tiger Woods’ school record of 11 career victories. Rodgers, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world, could break the mark at next week’s NCAA Championship.

In addition to the six college titles, Rodgers, of Avon, Ind., also represented the United States at the Palmer Cup and Walker Cup, compiling a 5-1-2 record. He was a finalist for this award as a freshman in 2012.

The other two finalists for the award were Stanford senior Cameron Wilson and Georgia Tech junior Ollie Schniederjans.

Rodgers and Schniederjans, who has won a school-record five times this season, are the favorites for National Player of the Year. Rodgers announced in February that he will turn pro after next week’s championship.

Past winners of this prestigious award include Hunter Mahan, Bill Haas, Ryan Moore, Matt Every, Chris Kirk, Rickie Fowler, Kyle Stanley and Peter Uihlein.
