Lavner: How Rich Beem turned back the clock at Baltusrol
SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – Rich Beem didn’t just make the cut Friday at the PGA Championship.
He also finished as low media member.
Beem, the 2002 PGA champion who effectively retired from competitive golf to work full-time as a Sky Sports TV commentator, posted 1-over 141 after two rounds to make the cut at Baltusrol.
Regardless of what happens over the weekend, it’s been a memorable week for the 45-year-old Beem. He shot 69 in the first round, his first sub-70 score in a major in nine years, and followed with a 72 on Friday. This is his first made cut at the PGA since 2012.
He took to Twitter shortly after his round on Friday to share his excitement:
Holy crap, I made the cut!!! Thanks for all tweets, sorry I can't reply to them all!!! Cheers!
