CROMWELL, Conn. – Following a missed cut at the U.S. Open, Bubba Watson is happy to be back at the Travelers Championship, where birdies aren’t hard to find.

“That’s why I love coming here,” said the 2010 champion. “You know, when you come here after the U.S. Open, you feel like you have a chance to make some birdies.”

Unlike Pinehurst, Watson can play some “Bubba Golf” at TPC River Highlands – which in the opening round led to one impressive birdie. On the par-5 13th hole, his drive wound up in the water hazard on the right side. From there, he dropped and knocked his third shot to two feet and sank the short birdie putt.

“Birdie after hitting the ball in the water is pretty good. It kind of gets you ready to go, you know, when you can sneak a birdie in like that.”
