A drought-busting victory still wasn’t enough to send St. Jude Classic winner Ben Crane into this week’s U.S. Open.
Crane, who won in Memphis for his first title since 2011, moved from No. 267 to No. 101 in the world ranking. The top 60 after last week’s tournaments were exempt into the year’s second major.
Crane withdrew after the first round of sectional qualifying in Memphis.
An even bigger move was made Sunday by Troy Merritt, whose runner-up finish at TPC Southwind rocketed him from 805th to 286th.
Bernd Wiesberger may have lost in a playoff at the European Tour’s Lyoness Open, but it was enough to move from No. 69 to No. 60 and into the U.S. Open. He finished .0224 points ahead of No. 61 Pablo Larrazabal.
