She won’t be in the final group on Sunday, but Paula Creamer put herself in position for her 11th LPGA victory with a 5-under 66 Saturday at the Kingsmill Championship.
Creamer made four birdies and an eagle against a single bogey and played her final four holes 2 under to get within two shots of leader Perrine Delacour.
“I actually did not hit the ball very well at all ... I have hardly hit any greens today,” Creamer said. “But that’s what you got to be. You have to have a good short game and be able to bail yourself out at times.
“My putter was hot and I gave myself some really good looks for par, even thought I had to save them. It was a crazy back nine, that’s for sure.”
Creamer’s last victory came at last year’s HSBC Women’s Champions, when she sank a 75-foot eagle putt for victory in a playoff against Azahara Muñoz. On Sunday, the 10-year LPGA veteran will be trying to chase down Delacour, a 21-year-old from France who has made just one cut in seven starts this year, and Alison Lee, a 20-year-old rookie.
“You want to have an opportunity to win,” Creamer said. “Playing in a final group or the last two groups, that’s always fun. It’s good to have my game where I want it to be. I have a lot of confidence, even though got to go work on some things, but this is fun.”
