Nick Faldo will play in his final Open Championship this July at St. Andrews.

The three-time Open champion and six-time major winner said Monday: “The Open and St Andrews will forever hold a significant place in my heart. My fondest moments on my journey with this great sport are woven with pictures and emotions in this setting. It all means a huge amount to me.

“I look forward to celebrating all that golf has given me as I cross that storied bridge and the wonderful memories I share with many people. I am grateful for it all and grateful to golf.”

Faldo will celebrate both the 25th anniversary of his second Open title, which he won at St. Andrews, and his birthday; he’ll turn 58 the Saturday of tournament week.

The Englishman earned the title of Champion Golfer of the Year in 1987, 1990 and 1992 and recorded 10 other Open top-10s between 1982 and 2003.

As far as final Open appearances go, Faldo will join five-time winner Tom Watson, who previously announced his intention to make this Open Championship his last.
