PINEHURST, N.C. – Stacy Lewis took a different path around Pinehurst No. 2 Friday at the U.S. Women’s Open.
She called her 67 in the first round easy.
There was nothing easy about her 73 in the second round.
The Rolex world No. 1 started the day with a one-shot lead. She ended it four shots behind Michelle Wie and tied for third.

“I didn’t hit the ball very good to start,” Lewis said. “Then the putting just didn’t help. At a U.S. Open you’re going to have to make some 5- and 6-footers, and that’s what I didn’t do today. I hit some bad iron shots, but I didn’t leave myself in that bad of places, I just didn’t putt very good.”
Lewis didn’t have a bogey in the first round. She had six of them to go with three birdies in the second. She did manage to play the final five holes in 1 under.
“You can’t fret over one round,” Lewis said. “You’re going to have a bad round on this golf course. It’s just the way it is. If that’s the worst I play this week, I think I’ll be all right.”
