The hot takes were flying on social media on Thursday after Jordan Spieth signed for a 5-over 76 in his title defense at the Valspar Championship.
And while the world No. 1 wasn’t too pleased, taking the time to personally respond, he got some support from one of his biggest rivals, Rory McIlroy.
Responding to a tweet from ESPN’s Jason Sobel suggesting some of the ludicrous opinions he’d seen floating around the Twittersphere, McIlroy went to bat for Spieth, reminding everyone of the obvious - he’s a 22-year-old two-time major winner who isn’t slumping, isn’t done and also isn’t Tiger Woods.
Seems like common sense but someone had to say it.
No, he's not TW, he's not slumping and he's not done. He's a double major winning 22 year old. He'll be just fine!! https://t.co/z0JHj72SiH
