CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sometimes Geoff Ogilvy can only scratch his head.
With a 5-under-par 67 Friday, Ogilvy jumped onto the leaderboard at the Wells Fargo Championship, moving four shots off the lead going into the weekend.
Without a PGA Tour win in four years, with no top-10 finishes in more than a year, Ogilvy has been searching hard for the form that made him one of the best players in the world, the winner of the 2006 U.S. Open.
Ogilvy says his struggles are mostly because of putting, but there have been complications that have come with the putting woes.

“What it does to your head changes everything,” Ogilvy said.
Ogilvy, 36, has felt his confidence battered as he has struggled to put up the scores he needs not only to contend, but to make cuts. He has missed more cuts this year (6) than he has made (5).
“I’ve been gradually hitting the ball better all year,” Ogilvy said. “It’s not putting as a whole; it’s holing the right putt at the right time, or hitting the wrong shot at the wrong time.”
Ogilvy is 122nd in strokes gained-putting this year. He was 155th last year. He was 20th the year he won the U.S. Open.
