Ian Poulter was penalized Friday for taking an illegal drop at the Volvo China Open. But at least he had a sense of humor about it.
After his round of 2-over 74, Poulter took to Twitter and decided to have some fun at his expense knowing his more than 1.6 million followers were bound to give him some grief for not knowing the rule.
I'm such a ¥#%$¥+€ helmet, the most simple Rule that I had been given the day before, Drop in second club length. Errr wrong 2 shot penalty.

I didn't think it would be difficult to drop a golf ball, but today I managed to make a complete $€$%^#¥= arse of it. Basic Rules. #Nobhead

According to the Associated Press, Poulter had to take a drop on the par-5 13th after his ball landed in some dense foliage. Poulter took two club lengths for his drop, but that put him on the cart path. Poulter took another two club lengths from there, but the Rules of Golf only allow one club length. Poulter was penalized two strokes but still made the cut.
He then decided to run a contest on Twitter for the best cartoon of his illegal drop.
The funniest cartoon picture of me taking an illegal drop today wins a signed Ryder cup photo & @ijpdesign goodies. follow & use @ijpdesign
