Jason Day withdrew from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play after six holes on Wednesday, later revealing that his mother is battling lung cancer and was undergoing surgery on Friday. Fellow pros took to social media to offer support.
(Editor’s note: Tony Finau was the first alternate for the event and would have gotten in if Day had withdrawn prior to the start of his match.)
To clear up any dispute. Absolutely no hard feelings to Jason Day. My thoughts and prayers to him and his family at this time. #cancersucks

Tough to watch @JDayGolf in his press conference. Thoughts are with his mum, him and his family as she fights the battle.

Hard to hear @JDayGolf statement. He epitomizes class. Hope he and his family are able to get through this so we can see him tear it up soon

Praying for @JDayGolf and his family. He's always been one of my role model. He handles himself with such class on and off the course.
