That big win everyone seemed to be waiting for? Jordan Spieth delivered last week in Australia, where on a brutal golf course he shot a closing 63 to win the Australian Open by six shots.
It was the 21-year-old’s second professional win, and first since the 2013 John Deere. As a result, Spieth crept closer to the top 10 in the world ranking, rising from No. 14 to No. 11.
Earlier this year he was ranked as high as No. 7, following a run in the spring when he tied for second at the Masters, finished 12th at Colonial and shared fourth place at The Players.
Adam Scott’s fifth-place showing in Australia wasn’t enough to propel him ahead of No. 2 Henrik Stenson. It was his second consecutive top 5 on the Australian swing.
Here’s the top 10 in the world heading into the Hero World Challenge: No. 1 Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Scott, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar. Hero Challenge host Tiger Woods is currently 24th.
