PGA Tour veteran Robert Gamez underwent quadruple bypass surgery Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

Gamez, 45, experienced difficulty breathing over the weekend when he was taken to the hospital.

“It was definitely unexpected,” said Gamez’s manager, Paul Graham, the vice president of Empire Sports Management.

Gamez, best known for winning two tournaments in his rookie year on Tour (1990), has played in only one PGA and Web.com event this season. He is a three-time PGA Tour winner, most recently in 2005.
