Lefty still holds top spot

Here are GolfChannel.com’s Power Rankings, a weekly barometer of the hottest players in the game:

1

Phil Mickelson

Tough to bounce Lefty from the top spot during a “bye” week, particularly considering he is something of an emotional defending champion at Colonial (2008 winner) following last year’s miss to spend time with wife Amy.
2

Jim Furyk

The veteran was on a two-week post-Players hiatus but heading into “Open” season he’s impossible to ignore. Furyk likely will need a strong showing at Colonial to keep his spot.

Lee Westwood

Failed to break 70 for three rounds at the BMW PGA Championship (his “fifth major”) but closed with 66 to improve to seven top 10 finishes in nine starts this year.
4

Ernie Els

The pressure of having redesigned Wentworth for last week’s BMW PGA probably got the best of him (he tied for 34th) but his 2010 resume is still an architectural gem.
5

Tim Clark

Many figure that the South African’s Players breakthrough is just the tip of the victory iceberg. He’ll be in the hunt against this week at Colonial, where he’s finished second that last two years.

Rory McIlroy

Northern Irishman won’t move up in this lineup following a less-than-stellar week at the BMW PGA, where he tied for 48th place. Hasn’t done much since Quail Hollow.
7

Bo Van Pelt

Quintessential ballstriker continues to impress and Colonial is a shot-maker’s ballpark. It’d be surprising if he doesn’t continue his trend of top-10 performances.

Robert Allenby
For all those who say the Aussie can’t putt, consider that he is 15th on Tour with a 1.74 average and first on putts from 20-25 feet, rolling in 27 percent of his attempts.

Jason Day

The wait is over for the talented Australian. Everybody will marvel at Day’s power, but his distance control with his wedges may be his most important asset.

Adam Scott

We can’t just drop the guy for taking a week off after his victory at the Texas Open can we? No. We’ll at least wait another week.
