Sources told Golf Channels Steve Sands that the Chevron World Challenge will be played two weeks earlier than originally scheduled. The Tiger Woods hosted season-ending event now will be staged the week after Thanksgiving, Dec. 3-6, at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks , Calif. It was originally scheduled for Dec. 17-20.
Woods has made it no secret that he always wanted an earlier date for the 16-man field because he felt that the late December date was too close to the holidays and only a few weeks away from the PGA Tours season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.
The early December date opened after the Del Webb Father-Son Challenge was cancelled for this year. Father-Son Challenge tournament officials said that they hoped the event will return in 2010. It had been held every year since 1996.
Larry and Drew Nelson won last years Father-Son Challenge at ChampionsGate outside Orlando, Fla. Vijay Singh won the 2008 Chevron World Challenge by a shot over Steve Stricker.
