Here are GolfChannel.com’s Power Rankings, a weekly barometer of the hottest players in the game:
| Rank | Player | Comment | | 1 | Ernie Els
| The King of the Florida Swing, with two victories, is also the player with the most up-side heading toward Magnolia Lane. No one can fill the void left by Tiger Woods, but Els has done everything he can to try. | | | 2 | Steve Stricker
| A tough week at Bay Hill, but don’t put too much stock in his 79-74 weekend. If anyone can bounce back it is a two-time Comeback Player of the Year. | | | 3 | Paul Casey
| Inactive again this week, but impossible to ignore after the year he’s had (seven starts, just one finish worse than T-11). These rankings don’t look ahead, but it helps that Casey is the defending champion this week in Houston. | | | 4 | Jim Furyk | One of the game’s best clutch putters turned his putter grip upside down and has been turning back the clock ever since, following his Transitions triumph with a tie for 11th at Bay Hill. | | | 5 | Charl Schwartzel | Didn’t have his best stuff at Bay Hill (T-52) and his decision to play the Shell Houston Open is a scheduling curiosity, but he is still among the year’s top performers. | | | 6 | Retief Goosen | This is not the smooth-putting Goose who won two of four U.S. Opens starting in 2001, but the new version has six top-10 finishes in eight total starts this season. | | | 7 | Camilo Villegas | Slid a little bit this week because of a missed cut at Bay Hill. Still he beat a quality field at the Honda, was among the Final Four at the Match Play and has two other impressive top-10s. | | | 8 | Ian Poulter | Poulter won the Tavistock Cup, didn’t play Bay Hill, and missed the cut at the Transitions, but all indications are his game will be peaking in time for the Masters. | | | 9 | Padraig Harrington | The Irishman has a clear mind, unlike last year, and a clear path to Augusta National as one of the betting favorites to capture the green jacket. Didn’t play Bay Hill but had consecutive top-8s before that. | | | 10 | Robert Allenby | The Aussie is always hovering near the top of the leaderboard but hasn’t found his way to victory yet. He has six top-20 finishes in eight events and tied for 14th at Bay Hill. |
