The GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) has announced that it’s freshman of the year award will be renamed the Phil Mickelson Award.
Mickelson, who recently won his first major at this year’s Masters, was a four-time first-team All-American at Arizona State. The three-time NCAA champion was one of only four players to ever be named to the first team four consecutive years.
The award is given out to the top NCAA Divisions I, II and III freshmen each year following each divisions national championships.
