Amateur shaking up US Womens Open

OAKMONT, Pa. – Somebody forgot to tell Kelli Shean she’s an amateur playing in her first U.S. Women’s Open.

Shean is defying odds and expectations at big, bad Oakmont.

She made the turn Thursday in the first round of her first U.S. Women’s Open with the lead.

Shean, 22, a University of Arkansas senior-to-be from Cape Town, South Africa, was alone atop the leaderboard at 2-under going to the 10th tee. This is just her second LPGA event. She tied for 27th as an amateur last fall at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship.
