Justin Rose has withdrawn from this week’s AT&T National at Congressional, citing exhaustion.

“I’m disappointed to withdraw from the AT&T National, but the last three weeks have been extremely demanding both mentally and physically,” he said in a statement. “This tournament has been very good to me – especially in 2010 – and I would play if I felt I could.”

The U.S. Open champion has been on a whirlwind tour ever since he won his first major title at Merion. Even after being distracted by an early-week media blitz in New York City, the Englishman tied for 13th at the Travelers Championship. But Rose faded late during a final-round 71, telling reporters afterward, “I think that probably shows more fatigue than anything.”

Rose had planned to play AT&T then take two weeks off before the British Open at Muirfield.

It’s another big blow for the D.C.-area event. Last week, world No. 1 and tournament host Tiger Woods announced that he would be unable to play because of an elbow strain. Only two of the top 10 players in the world (No. 4 Adam Scott and No. 8 Brandt Snedeker) are in the field.

Rose will be replaced at the AT&T by Brendon Todd.
