Fan meets Mickelson - the hard way

SAN FRANCISCO – Terry Gunning traveled across the United States to see Phil Mickelson play.

‘I came all the way from Connecticut to get his autograph,’ she said.

She got it the hard way.

Mickelson pulled his approach right at the fifth hole and into the gallery. The ball hit Gunning with such force on her hip that it knocked her down.

Mickelson did more than sign his golf glove and give it to her. He gave her a hug.

‘You took one for the team,’ said Jim Mackay, Mickelson’s caddie.

When Gunning looked at the signed glove, she laughed. Mickelson wrote the word ‘sorry’ above his name with a sad face drawn into the letter O.
